The sounds of Sintrument are sculpted digital audio, each created in the audio stream itself, rather than acoustically recorded and then encoded. Sintrument lives only as numbers until you press “play.”

A variety of unusual audio synthesis techniques were used to create Sintrument. For example, sonograms were hand-painted and new sounds created from them, reversing the typical process. Melodic phrases were hand-painted and set against scales to convert them to synthesizer input. Evolutionary principles were applied and descendant sounds created to complement their ancestors. Performances were captured with electronic drum and piano instruments as well as generated algorithmically.
